Welcome!
We are The Ilford Review. Founded in 2023, our mission is simple: to share the best in long-form essays and creative non-fiction from new and emerging voices around the world. We seek stories that are as entertaining as they are steeped in truth, which speak to the diversities and intricacies of the human experience, open our horizons, and teach us a little bit about the world and ourselves.
We are particularly passionate about improving representation in the industry by providing paid publishing opportunities for writers from marginalised backgrounds, thus challenging the existing culture of free work and underpayment that disproportionately disadvantages writers from under-represented demographics, especially those at the start of their careers.
To that end, we are firm believers in being paid fairly for your work, and though we are a young magazine, we started this out with a commitment that all our contributors will be paid fairly for their work. For our current rates, please see the submission guidelines.
We are now closed for submissions. Sign up below to be notified when the submission period for Issue 2 will open.
We welcome submissions from people of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, gender, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, or maternity.
The Ilford Review is a new magazine. To support our work and the work of our contributors, consider becoming a subscriber or making a tax-deductible donation.
